SSSC Learning Zone

Under the SSSC Code of Practice for Social Service Employers, employers must provide training and development opportunities to allow workers to strengthen and develop their skills and knowledge. To help employers do this a range of resources is available on our Learning Zone website.

Our Learning Zone website has two sections:

  • learning zone – has a range of resources to help employers support workers to plan and progress their own learning and development.

  • technology sandbox – lets employers test different types of technology to see what might work for learning and development in their organisations.

There are tools workers can use to help support their development. This includes career pathways, where you can find out about other areas of employment, job roles and a career pathway ready reckoner which shows how you can progress your career. Employers may also find these resources useful for identifying how to support workers to develop knowledge and expertise.

Our Learning Zone also hosts a range of apps we have published to support workforce development. This includes apps on dementia and promoting physical activity in care homes. Social work, children and young people and adult social care roles are defined by the National Occupational Standards (NOS) which have been developed in partnership with stakeholders. The NOS Navigator is a simple, easy to use tool to help you find your way around the NOS for the social service sector in Scotland.
