About the role
As part of the Hearings Department, you will support and provide a full service to SSSC hearings held under the SSSC Fitness to Practise Rules (the Rules). You will also provide support to the wider functions of the department. This is a temporary post for up to 12 months to cover maternity leave.
In this role, you will have the option of working either 17.5 hours per week (in an alternating pattern of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday one week, then Thursday, Friday in the second week) or 21 hours per week (over Wednesday, Thursday, Friday).
You will:
• provide clerking services to fitness to practise hearings (in person and remotely)
• make sure the hearings run smoothly and follow the Rules
• attend, support and organise case management meetings by issuing papers, recording and issuing decisions and directions
• provide support for hearings including scheduling and collecting, checking and sending out documents to the relevant people
• manage postponement requests by liaising with the relevant people and the panel chair
• support people (eg workers, their supporters and witnesses) who are attending hearings, for example, by providing practical assistance, explaining the process and directing them to the Rules and hearing information
• carry out the above work using our case management system
• liaise with panel members, solicitors and others involved in the process
• occasionally travel (and have overnight stays) to support hearings in locations throughout Scotland.
